St Pats first ever U14 Championship
A large crowd gathered for this U14 championship final as St Pat's bid for their first ever U14 "A" Championship win. The original venue for this one was to be Brookeborough but Aughadrumsee would host it as Brookeborough prepare for the opening of their new pitch. St Pats began very lively with points from Mattie McGrade, Ryan Kelly and Ronan Melarkey and indeed it was Melarkey who came very close to a cracker only to have it rebound of the crossbar and out, Goal line technology may have been called into question here but there was no disputes from the boys in red and white. St Pats did have most of the possession in the opening 10-15minutes as Mini Maguire and Thomas Cadden being the liveliest on the wings. Tempo did add scores of their own with their full forward line being on target and as St Pats spurned further goal chances Tempo were dispatching theirs to leave very little in it at the interval. St Pats led at the break.
The second half was dominated by a hungrier and better organised St Pats team, Ryan Kelly was proving to be a handful at centre half forward as too was Mattie McGrade at midfield with his long passes and high fielding, McGrade must have scored 10 points himself. Enda Teirney was incredible with his bursts of speed cleaning up broken ball and it was him that suffered a heavy head challenge in the first half, Niall Martin added points in the last ten minutes of the second half as he grabbed a hat trick of points overall, Dara O'Reilly grabbed a goal mid way through the second half as St Pats bombarded a helpless Tempo. St Pats ran out winners with 15points to spare at the end, for the Champions Dara O'Reilly and Ryan Kelly were effective with a bagfull of scores between them, Mattie McGrade recorded the most scores in this one, in the defence Enda Teirney was a everywhere and shows good signs for the future.
