Round 2: St Patrick's 2:05 Enniskillen Gaels 2:07
Having one win under their belt this St Pats minor boys were at home to Enniskillen Gaels in Round 2 of the Minor League. Playing conditions could'nt have been better as the sun shown down in Louis Leonard Memorial Park. The opening minutes of the first half were scrappy as both sides tried to get early scores and it was indeed the visiting side which opened the scoring with a point from play. This point was later followed up with another from play as Enniskillen started to show their authority in counter attacks. St Pats indeed were gifting these scores to the Gales as they could not get a score. Enniskillen had 3 points on the board before St Pats had one and it came after a flurry of wides as a snappy St Pats side tried very hard to put together a consistent spell of play. The first half was'nt one of major incident and when Brian McDermott sprinted in on goal on 20 minutes it took a great save from the Gaels keeper to deny him. Enniskillen added a further score and only for the St Patrick's keeper Johnny O'Reilly pulling of a point blank save before the break Enniskillen could have had a good lead. The half time score read St Patrick's 0:01 Enniskillen Gaels 0:04
The second half saw an enthusaitic Gaels side add further scores with a point from play and their first goal. A high ball was broken in the penalty area and was not dealt with by the St Pats Defence and a Gaels forward struck the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the St Pats net. St Pats were creating lots of chances but were not put it on the score board. Around the 15minutes mark of the second half St Pats got themselves back in the game with a well worked goal when Michael Montgomery played Brian McDermott in on goal who then played a short pass of to Kevin Curran who slotted in from close range. This brought about a sense of unease with the Enniskillen team who up to this stage had been playing some very good long passing football. St Pats had suddenly came alive and within a matter of minutes they had the ball in the net again this time Ruairi McGrade played in a high ball which was broken down and i am not sure if Shane O'Neill knew much about it, but it hit of his boot and the ball was in the net. St Pats added further scores from Ruairi McGrade and Michael Montgomery and closed the Gaels lead to within one point. The last minutes of this one were exciting as St Pat's piled on the pressure but indecisiveness cost them in the end. St Pats had a great chance to level the game but the ball was broken down and Enniskillen finished the game of with a final point. Poor shooting the first half cost St Pat's this one, however their was good performances from the twin McElroy's Cormac and Cahir, Colin Logan was effective when moved to the defence, referee for the day was Noel Davis of Teemore.
