Jason Cadden inspires St Pats Win

Jason Cadden came of the bench for the last 15 minutes of this reserve championship match to score 3 points which setup a deserved St Pats win. Playing Brookeborough in the 1st round of the reserve championship at Maguiresbridge St Pat’s recorded a 1 point win. This game was a close affair with very little separating them at any stage.  St Pats had to work hard for scores in the first half which came from Eugene Cadden and Patrick Quaile who scored a well worked goal. St Pats defence was busy arguing with the referee when Aidan Boyle cleverly scored a goal from a 14 yard free kick, Brookeborough failed to build on this and St Pat's led by the minimum at half time. The second half was again close with St Pats having most of the possession but not making it count on the score board. Scores were hard to come by as both sides were scrappy while tackling and giving away possession. Mid way through the first half Patrick Boyle was played in on goal with a long pass up the wing and he hammered it into the top right corner of Ciaran McGrades goal putting Brookeborough in the lead and que the introduction of Jason Cadden and Sean Daly for St Pats. Both players were on the ball straight away and registered scores from play to put St Pats back in the lead and when Jason Cadden struck one over from his right boot it was looking like a maestro move from managers Gary Maguire and Ciaran Leonard, Daly added a point and Cadden also pointed from a free to put St Pat's 4 points up. Brookeborough was awarded a late penalty which took the shine of a late St Pat's rally. For St Pats Jason Cadden and Sean Daly were effective impact subs and Oisin Boyle had a great game in the St Pat's defence making long runs up the wing.

Lisnaskea finish stronger

St Pat’s juniors were defeated on Saturday evening away to Lisnaskea Emmetts. A game which was played in very good spirit and was very evenly contested on the first half. St Pat’s went down by two points in the opening 10minutes as Darren Graham slotted over for the Emmett’s. St Pat’s did manage some scores soon after with Eugene Cadden and Emmelyn Melarkey both on target. Very little separated the sides as the half time interval approached and St Pats managed a few more scores which set them up with a 1 point lead at the end of the first half and indeed should have at least one goal as the St Pats forwards spurned easy chances. Half time Score Lisnaskea 0:05 St Patrick’s 0:06

The second half was very different to the first as Lisnaskea had most of the possession and if not for wayward shooting probably should have had a big lead early into the second half. Lisnaskea opened with a point from play and St Pats were struggling to get any scores as poor ball was going into the forward line. Midfield was playing 2nd fiddle to Graham and McKenna as Lisnaskea piled on the pressure winning frees in scoreable positions which they scored. When Greg O’Donnell was played in for the only goal of the game a skea win was definitely on the cards. St Pats did try a rally towards the end but just wasn’t enough, missing Jason Cadden and Michael McGrade was evident as the St Pats forwards failed to dispatch goals when they were at their mercy. Final Score Lisnaskea 1:10 St Patrick’s 0:07

Irvinestown's first half penalty the difference

St Pats junior team suffered defeat to Irvinestown on Saturday evening. St pats played into the Newtownbutler end of the pitch and put together some positive spells of play with Eugene Cadden, Emmelyn Melarkey and Shaun Montgomery all getting onto the score Sheet for St Pat's. Irvinestown who came with the bare 15 players always kept 1 or 2 points in it. The main talking point of the game came mid way through the first half when an Irvinestown forward was heavily challenged by Conor O'Neill and Joe Smith the referee awarded the penalty. The penalty was slotted into the bottom right hand corner of Patrick Quailes goal as Irvinestown took the lead. There was further scores added from the visitors and the half time score read St Patrick's 0:05 Irvinestown 1:04

The second was hampered by a swirling wind which was causing both sides problems with scores and passing. Neither side never really got a hold of the game and only added a total of 5 scores in the 2nd 30minutes. St pats rallied to try and close the gap but when they managed a score Irvinestown matched it and did just enough to hold on. St Pat's did have a chance at the very end for a goal when Jason Cadden played Eugene Cadden in on goal but unable to stay upright the ball was gathered by the Irvinestown defence and cleared away, with that the final whistle went. Final score St Patrick's 0:07 Irvinestown 1:07. For St Pat's Ciaran Reihill tried hard at midfield as to did Marty Collins before retiring with a hip injury which may rule him out for a while, Eugene Cadden had a fine hour while further back Ciaran Keenan and Michael Montgomery also had solid displays.

St Pats breeze past Neighbours Newtownbutler

St Pats junior team breezed past a helpless Newtownbutler team on Saturday evening as they kept their winning spree intact with a high scoring affair. St Pat's had the full available squad for the first time this year and it proved to be an efficient and energetic team. The home side opened the scoring with points from Jason Cadden and Michael McGrade while Beggan was on hand for a score for the visitors. While St Pats were putting decent patches of play together they where not making all their chances count as they accumulated quite a few wides. It was mid way through the first half that St Pats started to stretch their lead and this was especially down to Michael McGrade who hammered in the first goal of the game. A number of points were then added these coming from Jamie Treacy at Midfield Emmelyn Mellarkey at half forward and Shaun Montgomery and Eugene Cadden all adding to the St Pats score. The half time score read St Patrick's 1:09 Newtownbutler 0:03

St Pats began the second half in the same spirit as the first as Newtown were doing all they could to try and get the score line a bit more respectable but on this occasion it wasn't to be. St Pats were just the better team as Newtown were carrying too many older players in this one and youth prevailed. St Pats added further goals from Jason Cadden and this just finished the Newtown team off as the youthful St Pats team ran out winners in the end with a score line of St Pats 3:19 Newtownbutler 0:07. For St Pats Michael McGrade was accurate in the forward line, as to was Eugene Cadden and Jason Cadden, further out the field Oisin Boyle was a handful as he made long runs from the St Pats defence. Over all a good win for St Pat's as they try an avoid automatic relegation and continue their climb to the summit.

O'Neill Goal the difference as St Pats get their first win

A Conor O'Neill goal scored in the first half of this game would prove to be the deciding factor at the end. This one was very much a tale of two halves, the first half dominated by an energised St Pats team which walked through a helpless Enniskillen side and the second a rejuvenated Gaels who tried hard to get back into this match. St Pat's rushed into a 6 point lead in the first half as Enniskillen struggled to match their energy. Points from Jason Cadden, Shaun Montgomery and Ruairi McGrade all adding to the St Pats goal which was tucked away very nicely by Conor O'Neill in the opening 15minutes. St Pats had not yet recorded a league victory going into this one and when the Gales put it to St Pats in the second half one was thinking that this would slip from their grasp. However, St Pats didn't crumble and as Enniskillen piled the pressure on St Pats were able to reply with scores of their own through Michael McGrade and Jason Cadden. The sending off of Shaun Montgomery didn't help the St Pats cause but their lead which was built up in the first half was enough for them to claim their first win of the season. For St Pats Ciaran McGrade was effective between the posts, Benny O'Reilly was solid at full back while Ciaran Reihill tried hard before retiring through injury, Shaun Montgomery was having a good game until he was shown his second yellow. Overall a great win to start what hopefully will be a continuation of these type of results. Final Score St Patrick's 1:12 Enniskillen Gaels 0:12
